2 out of 5 stars Poor quality scans; Not very funny the second time around   August 19, 2010
Tweets (Washington DC)
Having subscribed to the original magazine, I enjoyed the humor which satirized the events of the time. All my old magazine copies were tossed or given to friends, never to be returned.
This DVD is poorly scanned and the security watermark is too annoying when the pages are printed out. The greatest disappointment, however, is that the material was so 'current events' oriented that it is not even humorous today. I get one or two chuckles per issue - certainly not time well spent.

Sirs:
this product i am very, very happy with, although it is not as good as the original magazine for wrapping fish or lining the bottom of birdcages it still is very, very funny. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read the humourous articles but is limited because their drool keeps making the pages.........akkkkkkkkk sorry. These magazines are classics to me and it's great to have them all in one place and not taking up lots of room in the form of boxes in the closet, it does take a little adjustment from reading a mag to reading it on the screen but i got used to it. It's great to enjoy the twisted humour of national lampoon again!

5 out of 5 stars NatLampCo Regular Issue Collection   April 3, 2010

This collection is a must-have for everyone who loved the National Lampoon when it was a new, cutting-edge humor magazine. Some of the comedy material is out-of-date, but much of it is timeless. This collection chronicles both the rise of NatLamp into a comedy powerhouse in the 1970's along with its long, sad decline and demise. I hope that a collection of the brand's many "special editions" can be made available someday, as well.

3 out of 5 stars Many missing pages   March 23, 2010

The official Lampoon DVD-ROM makes me want to beef up my Lampoon collection even further: I keep noticing missing pages in the pdfs. The "Self-Indulgence" (December 1973) pdf is especially bad: a 108-page issue was somehow made into an 82-page (!!!) document. The problem might have been addressed at the source simply by doing a page count. Also, they might have invested in a new scanner rather than use an old one with a bunch of ghosting (streaks) burned into the optics. Also, they might have handled the image cropping better: lots and lots of stuff is cut off or riding the edge. But, to be clear, I'd be much more forgiving of these flaws if this disc had anything like every page of every magazine.

I'd give this a 3.5 rating if I could, an average of the great contents and the shoddy presentation, but am rounding down; 4 stars is too high.

I ponder creating an unofficial NatLamp DVD-ROM. Too bad only a handful of people would be interested. Oh, and distributing it would be illegal. Still, I'm positive I could do a better job than GIT CORP did.

2 out of 5 stars So much potential...   March 14, 2010
Yukon Ron (Big Sky Country)
Growing up reading Nat'l Lampoon when ever I had a few extra bucks, I was glad to see this product to be able to read the issues I'd missed. As others have mentioned, the scanning could have been better, but also the source appears to be some old magazines purchased from a garage sale! The covers appear worn and crinkled and some pages appear sun damaged. Also, if you attempt to print a page, you can, but every page is watermarked when printed. It's nice to see paying customers protected from using the product they have purchased.
