1 out of 5 stars NOT for VHS to DVD if needing quality   September 8, 2010
Charles T. Cole (Arkansas)
My expectations were TOO high for a $40 dollar product. Still it is called "VHS to DVD" so I don't totally blame myself for having high expectations.

Using RC jacks (yellow, red, white) from a Sony 8mm camera, or from the VCR you will NOT get even close to the same quality you get going 8mm camera to VHS. I've tried all the different methods, but it has something to do with the PROCESS of converting to digital, then compressing for DVD that will cost you HIGH in quality. Many DVDs were wasted due to results like audio/video sync WAY off [but next time that would be fine], or weird anomolies where hunks of video would not be in same order as transferred.

I've read review where you can tweak this, do that, take audio in a different port, but I'm not interested in spending days and days just to convert one VHS tape to DVD correctly with poor video quality.

Bottom line, go read some of the video NERD sites and you'll find it just can't be done well for $40. I'm returning this package, because in my case it is totally useless. Next I plan to try using a VHS to DVD conversion unit.

In the meantime, I will convert ALL my 8mm to VHS because that DOES look great. This will at least give me backup and allow the grandparents to view since they all still have VHS/DVD dual players.

5 out of 5 stars A very easy to use product   August 23, 2010

The product is a simple plug and play product. Because it is a RCA to USB connector it is very easy to set up your VCR. The software provides a simple capture the VCR recording process. There is an advanced option that enables you to perform more editing features. I have been only using it to convert many old family VCR home recordings before the tape ages and loses even more quality.

This product is very easy to use. Very simple instructions and easy to follow screens on the computer. I have changed over 10+ VHS to DVD and have been pleased with the results.

2 out of 5 stars Poor video quality from older camcorders   August 8, 2010
Theodore Raymond
I have a video camera from the mid-90s that uses the 8mm tape. I was looking for a cheap way to transfer the videos to my PC. VHSToDVD 4 is cheap but did not do the job very well. The software included made the job easy but the quality of the transfer was terrible. Video was very grainy. Will probably have to invest in a more expensive solution.
