1 out of 5 stars Won't work with Office 2010   June 29, 2010

Acrobat is Adobe's powerful and long-running pdf handler. It's good software, but according to Adobe tech support, has known incompatibilities with Office 2010. We can't create pdf files from any Office document or spreadsheet. Adobe dropped the ball on this one, Office 2010 was out in beta for long enough for big developers like Adobe to get with the program. Avoid Acrobat 9 until Adobe fixes it.

5 out of 5 stars Works as advertised. Love it!!   June 13, 2010

If your business calls for the repetitive completion of forms, this software is a must. I have created and saved many new forms this year that will save me countless hours this next year. I just wish that I had bought the software years ago!

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE!!!!!   March 24, 2010

This software does not even deserve one star. It deserves none!

If you create a lot of PDFs, do not under any circumstances buy version 9. Stick with version 8. If you create several PDF documents and need to leave them all open, in version 8 only one Acrobat window remains open. You can move from document to document by using the control and tab buttons. Your computer works fine. Life is good. It's especially good as sometimes I wind up with the maximum number of documents open (somewhere around 40).

Unfortunately, version 8 recently stopped working properly on my computer so the computer was upgraded to version 9. My computer has been a mess ever since. The programmers at Adobe got the mistaken idea that Acrobat would be more efficient if each created PDF opened in a completely new window. Imagine the efficiency of your computer when you have 40 PDFs open in addition to an Internet browser (or two), e-mail, word processing software, maybe a spreadsheet and/or database program, etc. My computer's efficiency plummeted.

Worse, Acrobat often suddenly stops working. Sometimes I can have 20 or 25 PDFs open at one time; sometimes only seven. Sometimes that annoying illegal operation error message box appears; sometimes the program just shuts down without warning.

My work with PDFs mainly involves printing files to PDF. Occasionally, after creating a PDF, I will need to add a text box. With version 8, I could set my default font size and color. With version 9, I cannot; which means that every time I need to add a text box, I have to waste the time changing both. (It might not seem like a big deal on the surface, when you have to do it over and over and over, it gets old fast. It really is time-consuming.)

At least I can always tell when Acrobat is acting up, (i.e., too many files are open), because when I go to add a text box, the spot on the properties tool bar where one changes the font size becomes a black rectangle. Also, I use the alternate and tab buttons to jump between programs. If you press the alternate button and then the tab button, a box with all your open programs will appear. You keep pressing the tab button to get to the program you want. (Just FYI, alternate, shift, tab does the same thing in reverse.) When Acrobat is acting up, the box will not appear. My computer will simply jump between programs-- backwards.

While doing some research on why all these PDFs started opening in separate windows, I came across a forum on the subject, possibly at [...]. Many people complained. The forum had been closed with a note from the administrator that the message had been received loud and clear that multiple windows were bad. I don't know if a fix will be made just for this issue, but I expect the problem will be corrected for version 10. If you can wait until then, you should.

I am more impressed with features of this program every day. Great features and easy to use.
