 Expensive and not even ready for distribution in so many ways July 30, 2010

I am amazed at the 5 star reviews given to this tool. I generated 90% of my BP in Word, Excel, and Power Point prior to using BPP.
-The install for XP is a joke. You have to jump through hoops to get the assisting file in order to get it to install.
-Example BPs are so light to none existent in some of the most important or difficult areas abound.
-No easy way that I can find to import a simple PP object. In fact importing anything is never going to show up like you would desire unless it is a picture. For example, Impossible to import simple bullet lists from Word. You'll find a lot more to dislike about importing.
-Ctrl+s does not save on every screen such as the org chart description page. You don't find that out till you have much of it done and then you loose it. You'll find a lot more to dislike about saves.
-Charts such as the org chart page is apparently in capable of assigning demoted sections to the actual choice of upper/promoted. I.e. If you have A B C and add sub or demoted to any of them they all are tied to A or it is just one big nest not actually showing dependencies. You can not tie 1 and 2 to A, 3 and 4 to B, etc.
-Try to print view your org page? So SLOW. Simply goes to page one with no easy way of finding the page you want to view. The view page always reverts to some small view and you must always re size it. You'll find a lot more to dislike about print preview.
-The description for the org chart does not even show up?
-Charts such as the org chart are poor quality and extremely limited in any ability to modify. You'll find a lot more to dislike about charts!!!
-Often times, such as with charts (org), BPP says something like "Your organizational chart is pre-loaded with a basic organizational structure to get you started." That is true. Very BASIC and of limited help.
-Charts may be pretty, but try to get the rest of the BP to look nice, colorful, intriguing, etc. will be almost as much work as writing it.
-Spell check is poor. No active spell check. Only post. Handler check error for charts and graphs? Firefox spell checks even in this Amazon window. But their does not? Who wants to be unsure their BP, of things, has spelling errors hidden???
This tool reminds me of some shareware application in its 3rd of 4th revision from ~1990 or so. I can hardly believe that it is version 15 or something like this? An incredibly weak app/tool for something so important.
All in all, to make a tool, that costs so much, offers so little examples (much more & better examples for BPs out there), barely interacts with Office or likely any others, slow, clumsy, and prone to lost input, etc. is about 2 stars from me.

If you have little money, and have not started a BP the two above links will do so much more for you, cause you so much less anxiety and frustration, and cost you so little. BPP may be OK for some that have done a number of them. But it would not have helped me 1/5th as much as those other two resources.

Having written several different business plans (and having used several different versions of Palo Alto's BP software) I have to say that Business Plan Pro has always been a great way to create business plans on the fly. It offers many different types of templates for different types of businesses. These templates are wonderful starting points for creating business plans. The Standard Edition of Business Plan Pro provides great flexibility for creating simple business plans that don't involve things like Quickbooks or Excel integration. For more complex financial tasks, you may have to spring for the Premier version.
I have recommended this software to friends and would definitely never fail to use it for any future business plans that I may have to create.
I love it. My only caution to the customer is that these templates are great jumping off points and not meant to be taken as-is. Writing a business plan is still a project ... but with the help of the BP software, it's a heck of a lot easier!

I read 1 review that said it was not a good product and the final product is lacking. This could not be more false. This is such an impressive business plan that you can use for your own use, for investors, or for sale of your company. This product exceeded my expectations. A must buy.

Not too long ago, I wrote a 20-page business plan just from scratch. Maybe that was a good exercise but I'll never do it again. It was too time consuming. This software makes the job easy and dramatically reduces the time versus writing from scratch.
The time saved and professionalism in using this software even once will justify the investment. After all, one does not write a business plan without intending to invest money in startup costs.
Another advantage is the completeness of a work product from Business Plan Pro 15th edition. It's doubtful one would independently design a business plan that covers as much ground without this software.
I had always thought writing business plans was tedious and therefore many people simply have it in their heads. It's mush wiser to generate a bone fide business plan, but use a software tool to save an incredible number of hours. The interview process makes the job relatively painless although you still have to make decisions.

I recommend this product to anyone that is going to start a business or who is just thinking about starting one. It take a lot of time to prepare a business plan. This software will help you keep organized, ideas, and help.
