Oldie but Goodie.. A+ February 18, 2010 Daniel Rodas (Tennessee) First played this game as a freshman in college...was love at first site. The game never gets old..even comes with AOE2. and with the price how can you argue!? Even with all the new games out nowadays this game still holds its own. Even more fun when you play with friends online or use the awesome cheat codes! Dont pass it up
A True Classic... February 5, 2010 A. Humpherys (Idaho, USA) I've had the original of this series for I don't know how many years... It's always been fun to play. I've had the second one (Age of Kings) for slightly less time. As much fun Age of Kings is, I had no idea how much fun The Conquerors would be. I've never played it before.
Anyway, one of the great things about this series is that no matter how many times you play, it just keeps getting better. Right after I got this set from Amazon, I literally spent 4 hours playing a single "Standard Game" in Conquerors... There are a few things in Age of Kings that kinda bug me, and there are things I miss in the original from the second. Things like the idle villager button. The 200 population limit is another.
In Conquerors I just finished the Montezuma campaign. More fun than I've had in a long time in a campaign. Usually I do death match or random map.
In a nutshell, this game is HIGHLY recommended!
Don't let Amazon fool you into not being able to send this title to a PO box... If they give you crap, call 'em. In my area, if the PO box isn't on it, they post office will return it. Fortunately my billing address had it and was visible.
The condition of the case was a little bit to be desired. All but about 3 tabs holding the CDs were broken and fell out on the table as soon as I opened it. I recommend buying from Wal-Mart or some walk-in store if you care about the case very much.
Age of Empires January 19, 2010 David Gonzales (Gilbert, Az United States) Only came with a CD and no manual (which would of been good to have).
Speedy delivery A++
BEST GAME OF ALL TIME! January 13, 2010 Daniel Foucachon (Moscow, ID) Age of Empires (in particular, Age of Kings: Expansion) is my favorite computer game.
I particularly enjoy playing multi-player with friends of LAN.
One thing I want to mention: BEWARE WINDOWS 7 (and I hear Windows Vista) USERS!
This will not run easily on windows 7 due to Windows Aero. There are work-arounds, but overall, the system is unstable.
XP works best. Hopefully Microsoft will release a patch for it which will allow Windows 7 to work with the game, but who knows...
If anyone knows of a patch, let me know!
Few symptoms:
won't load
bad colors in game
can't join LAN game
Old game, but still runs well December 26, 2009 Daniel W. Peer (San Antonio, TX) I liked this game in the 90's and I still enjoy playing it. Excellent strategy game that sparked games such as StarCraft and many others. AOE2 is included and they are great games and a must-have for any strategy gamer. The one downfall to this is the fact that the original packaging had the tech trees for each nation on paper and it's difficult to choose nations based on their technological advancement trees if you don't have the original booklet that allowed you to read an easily compare who got the Centurions or the War Elephants. (At least AOE 2 has that built into the game.) One thing that is difficult to hold against the game, but is still a drawback, is that the online matches are not hosted by Microsoft anymore and they only support that for AOE 3 these days. Gamespy can still host them though, if you wish to play online. So, cheers to them and enjoy this classic!
